Fresh Fruit

Fresh fruit (that is, fruit that’s not juiced, dried or from concentrate) contains naturally sweet sugars. But these come wrapped up with plenty of balancing fibre, water and nutrients so they don’t wreak havoc on your body like the bucketloads of added sugars in many processed foods.

That makes fresh fruit your snack best friend and goes perfectly with a hint of fat like a slice of cheese or spoonful of yoghurt to keep you fuller for longer.

Warming spices like cinnamon make sure the perfect sweet addition to so many recipes! Sprinkle over breakfast, dust over roasting veggies, add to herbal teas or smoothies… you’re really only limited by your imagination.

Vanilla powder or extract makes for a perfect sweet sugar alternative. Add a dash to smoothies, breakfast bowls and desserts for a sugar-free sweet hit.

Sweet potato

Ahh sweet potato, is there anything it can’t do?! These top tubers are a great source of fibre, vitamins A and C, manganese, and antioxidants.

They’re also naturally sweet, lending themselves to both savoury and dessert recipes like casseroles, pies, brownies (yes, brownies!), mash and better-for-you fries. Try sprinkling some roasting sweet pot with a little cinnamon for a winningly sweet snack.
